Digital transformation and strategic autonomy in Viet Nam’s cultural industries

Amid the rapid pace of digital transformation, Viet Nam’s cultural industries are presented with a significant opportunity to accelerate growth, expand markets, and assert the position on the global creative map. Beyond the mere adoption of technology, the article by Mr. Nguyen Hung Quang – Managing Partner of NHQuang&Associates, an expert on drafting regulations on cultural industries in the Law on Capital 2024, highlights the importance of “strategic autonomy” – the ability to master technology, data, and content distribution platforms. This is seen as a key factor in both driving economic development and safeguarding cultural sovereignty in the digital environment.

From both policy and business perspectives, the article outlines several practical directions: fostering innovation, developing a digital content ecosystem with a distinct Vietnamese identity, and refining the legal framework to support emerging business models. Digital transformation, therefore, is not just a tool but a foundational pillar for the sustainable development of Viet Nam’s cultural industries, enhancing competitiveness and gradually promoting Vietnamese cultural values to the world.
