International experience regarding the use of phones and computers in courtrooms and implications for Viet Nam

As digital transformation continues to reshape judicial proceedings, the use of mobile phones and computers in courtrooms raises the need to strike an appropriate balance between safeguarding the right to defence and the right to a fair trial, while maintaining order, dignity, and the integrity of judicial proceedings.

In his article published in the Electronic Journal of the People’s Court, Mr. Nguyen Hung Quang – Founder and Managing Partner of NHQuang&Associates – examines international practices concerning the management and use of electronic devices during court hearings. Drawing on these experiences, the article offers several recommendations for Viet Nam in developing an appropriate regulatory framework that balances the requirements of judicial proceedings with the lawful rights and interests of participants in legal proceedings.

This article was published on the People’s Court Electronic Journal website on August 10, 2026.
