Untying the Patent Examination bottleneck

Prolonged patent examination timelines are undermining business competitiveness and dampening incentives for innovation. Vietnam is in urgent need of practical solutions such as fast-track examination mechanisms, simplified procedures, and stronger law enforcement to ensure more effective patent protection.

As patents increasingly become a core asset for enterprises, lengthy examinations and complex procedures have emerged as significant barriers to intellectual property protection in Viet Nam. In an interview with Diễn đàn Doanh nghiệp (Business Forum Magazine), Mr. Phung Quang Cuong – Partner of NHQuang&Associates – offers candid analysis of the underlying causes, the consequences, and the necessary solutions to “unclog” the flow of innovation.

The interview provides expert insights into policy reform, the role of examining authorities, and the importance of working closely with intellectual property lawyers to effectively protect and commercially leverage patents.
