As international integration deepens, intellectual property rights are becoming a decisive factor in business competitiveness, brand reputation, and sustainable growth.
In an interview with Business Forum Newspaper, Mr. Phung Quang Cuong, Partner at NHQuang&Associates, emphasized the pivotal role of intellectual property (IP) for enterprises.
According to Mr. Cuong, registering and protecting IP not only reinforces brand identity and creates a competitive edge but also opens up opportunities for commercialization, capital contribution, and long-term development. However, in Viet Nam, many companies still underestimate this issue. Lengthy procedures, a low number of patent applications by Vietnamese innovators, and widespread IP infringements, especially on e-commerce platforms, remain pressing challenges.
To address these shortcomings, Mr. Cuong proposed aligning the legal framework with international standards, shortening examination timelines, and strengthening penalties for violations. On the business side, he urged companies to take the initiative in registering IP protection, managing intellectual assets, investing in anti-counterfeiting technologies, and being prepared to take legal action when infringements occur.
