After 20 working days (from May 20 to June 14, 2019), the XIV National Assembly decided to adopt 07 law projects including: Law on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Alcoholic Beverages; Law on Amendment to a number of Articles of the Law on Insurance Business and the Law on Intellectual Property; Law on Amendment and Supplementation to a number of Articles of the Law on Tax Administration; the Amended Law on Public Investment; Law on Execution of Criminal Judgments; Law on Amendment and Supplementation to a number of Articles of the Law on Education and Law on Architecture.

In the spirit of “increasing the rate of successful mediation in civil cases”, the Supreme People’s Court has been piloting mediation and dialogue at Courts in 16 provinces/cities. The success of this pilot model has demonstrated the effectiveness and demand for mediation and dialogue of the disputing parties.

In line with the process of legalizing the commitments in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) that Viet Nam has engaged and Resolution No. 72/2018/QH14 approved the CPTPP Agreement by the National Assembly, the Draft Law on amendment and supplementation to a number of articles of the Law on Insurance Business and the Law on Intellectual Property (Draft) was presented at the 33rd session of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for consideration and comments.

In the last few years, the payment of personal income tax (PIT) for incomes received from foreign organizations (such as Google, Apple, Facebook, YouTube) is a problem that has drawn much attention. On March 23, 2019, with the desire to support creative startups and activities in the field of tax, Internet and new media practice, NHQuang&Associates organized the “Workshop on guidelines for PIT payment for individual doing business with overseas incomes”. The workshop shared the method for declaring and paying PIT and discussed problems related to compliance with Vietnam’s PIT regulations.

On January 25, 2019, the Ministry of Planning and Investment submitted to the Government the Draft Law on amendment and supplementation to a number of articles of the Investment Law and the Enterprise Law (Draft Law). The Draft Law has a wide range of amendments and supplementations (75 articles out of 289 articles) in 02 main legal documents, Investment Law 2014 (Investment Law), Enterprise Law 2014 (Enterprise Law) and 09 other laws related to investment and business activities. Currently, several contents of the Draft Law are in controversy.
